Lighter, Less Dense Insulation With Maximum Efficiency: Can It Be Done?

Lighter, Less Dense Insulation With Maximum Efficiency: Can It Be Done?

Anyone who has ever seen the traditional insulation for homes and commercial properties knows that it comes in these giant, pink fiberglass rolls. It is dense, heavy when wet, and it retains a little too much moisture if left near a leaking pipe or a hole in the roof. Eventually some roofs might suffer damage as a result of really dense and very heavy traditional insulation and from excess water.

So, how can you fix this? Is there an insulation solution that not only insulates really well but also remains light enough to prevent heavy damage to a roof? The short answer is, yes, there is, but let’s take a more in-depth look at what this option is.

Spray Foam Urethane Insulation

This stuff goes on like liquid plaster and inflates like a balloon. It dries so quick you would swear it’s concrete, yet it’s light enough that it might remind you of styrofoam. Spray foam urethane insulation is quickly becoming the insulation of choice in Arizona, particularly because it is light and easy to apply. With its fast drying times, extra layers can be added after an hour or two of drying time between layers. Each layer provides the minimum required insulation protection, but almost doubles the insulation’s R-value with each additional layer.

What is really exciting about this stuff is that it won’t cause health problems like traditional fiberglass insulation. It will not damage eyes, nose, lungs or skin during insulation. It can’t affect air quality in your home or business either because air easily passes through tiny holes that are naturally occurring in the foam.

It can seal off areas from moisture so successfully that water damage takes a very long time to develop. It is not dense, even layered, so it remains light and not a burden on the beams and underlying structures of your home or commercial building. You have to see it to believe it, but it’s an excellent alternative to most any other insulation product.
